This new Cider tax!
Categories: News
Not since 1763 when Lord Bute (another dour Scotsman) introduced the first cider tax have tempers run so high among ciders drinkers, makers and growers.
This new tax, amounting to a 13% rise in duty, is an ill informed attack on a traditional industry and it will disproportionately hit small artisan makers.
If the government department for social engineering and silly rules wanted to discourage the consumption of cheep industrial alcohol and "white cider" which have no acquaintance with the apple, then they should have done just that.
Instead with this sudden and unprecedented bashing they have threatened the jobs and livelihood's of 100's of traditional cider makers across the country, not to mention bashing another 6 inch nail in the, already well nailed, coffin of country pubs.
OH! DARLING WHAT HAVE YOU DONE.
